Cooks Well, Worried About Scratching Surface

I have mixed feelings on this cooktop. I replaced a glass top induction cooktop that I hated, so this is an improvement over that. I like having actual knobs to control the settings, which is much more efficient than using a finger on the glass. I have been able to clean well around the knobs, so that is not an issue. I do feel like it takes a long time to get up to heat, but once it is up to heat, it can get very hot very quickly. So if you turn something on high to get it boiling, don't turn your back, as you'll need to turn it down for a simmer once it finally heats up. But the temperatures seem consistent once heated, so I am happy with the evenness of the controls. My real concern for this is cleaning the top. I am using all the methods recommended by KitchenAid: wipe spills immediately, cool it down, use cooktop cleaner and/or baking soda. But it feels like the glass is going to scratch. It does not clean as well or have the slick feel as other glass cooktops I've had before. I had one very minor spillover, and it took me days to remove the burnt spot, gently rubbing cleaner on it a little at a time. But even carefully using all the recommended methods, it looks like there are marks on the glass where the spill was. I plan to contact KitchenAid about this, as I don't want a brand new cooktop ruined already. So I like how it cooks, but I am worried about keeping the surface from scratching.

Have been unable to use on a regular basis because the kitchen aid retractable downdraft is making a loud noise and has no suction power. Kitchen Aid repair specialist service the unit on 7/23.The noise went away for a day and has return. He states the suction problem is in the duct work. The original HVAC company that installed the duct work states it the downdraft that not working. Will get a 2nd opinion from another HVAC Co.

I invested in the KitchenAid KCES556HSS00 cooktop as part of a complete kitchen renovation 11 months ago. While the design and functionality initially impressed me, I was disheartened when the glass surface cracked in the corner during routine use™"simply sliding a saucepan.
Despite being within the 12-month warranty period, KitchenAid denied coverage, attributing the damage to an object being dropped, which was not the case. This response was based solely on a photograph, without a thorough inspection.
For a high-end appliance, I expected better durability and customer support. This experience has left me questioning the quality and service commitment of the KitchenAid brand.

Generally happy with the cooktop - it does the job. Burners are hard to see as there is little to no outline. Knobs go from High to Low heat turning left to right, which is counter-intuitive for me. Safety features are somewhat annoying - burner shuts down if a previously heated pan is lifted off - what if I want to flip something or shake the skillet - seems unnecessary. Easy to clean.

My new home came equipped with all Whirlpool products which have a builder™™s 2 yr warranty. I received Whirlpool extended warranty mailings to extended the warranties another year after owning them only 1 year which I purchased. Whirlpool then put all my extended warranties into effect 1 year before the builder™™s warranties expired rather than extending an other year. Have called customer service countless times and cookie cutter system cannot correct my issue. Total incompetence!! Have spent 20 hours on the phone with Whirlpool. Calling the Florida Attorney General™™s office.

Disappointing Appearance

We got this about a month ago. We use it often. Burners are good. Very little spillage on the cooktop. The issue we have is that the top does not come clean. It quickly lost its "new appearance." which is very disappointing. We bought the cleaning package and it still looks old and spotted.

The burners heat up quickly and maintain high heat. They're also great for simmering on low heat. My only disappointment is that I wish the cooking surface was easier to clean.

I recently purchased a new home that was equipped with all new Kitchen Aid appliances. The cooktop is one of the best electric cooktops I have ever owned. The control of the temperature is excellent. I™™m truly impressed with the quality of the cooktop. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great cooktop.

This stove was in my new construction home. It looks great and heats well but is impossible to keep clean. I purchased the recommended cleaning kit but it still doesn't look clean and this is after only a few uses and consistently cleaning while using; there hasn't even been major spills.

I had this installed 11/16/23. I boiled pan of potatoes for 12 minutes in a Cuisinart stainless steel pan. After the burner was cool enough to clean I realized that my cooktop was scratched (badly). I used that pan on my Jenn-Air glass cooktop for 11years with no problem. Read the manual. Does not recommend SS. WTH? I would have spent the $$ and got the JennAir repaired. I am sick to my stomach and out $1567 for a top that looks terrible

I bought my cooktop 6 months ago. I really like the performance of it, but the only problem I've had is cleaning it. It is hard to keep it shiny and clean. Even using the suggested cleaner, you have to really use a lot of pressure to clean and to shine the surface when done. Also I had used one of the front burners and removed the pan from the burner so of course the surface was still hot. I dropped some butter on it while I was reaching over it to put the butter in the pot on the back burner. It left a mark on the cooktop that I can not get removed. I seem to spend more time cleaning the cooktop than I do the rest of the whole kitchen. That is something I'm not happy with.

We purchased the cooktop recently for our new home. It has lots of options for different size pots and pans. I'm very impressed how quickly the elements heat up. Also, it works very well at maintaining a nice low-heat simmer. We're still experimenting with the ultra-power and even-melt options, and we're very pleased overall with the performance of the cooktop. I'll be very interested to experience the cleanability of the cooktop over a period of time as I experienced difficulties with a competing brand at our previous home.

We are in a brand new home with this cooktop, have the same pans we used for years on our previous GE glass cooktop, and after just one year, have sustained multiple scratches. Our GE never had a single scratch. It is just adults in the home who are careful with what is set on the cooktop, so we are not even sure how it is getting scratched. If this continues, will probably not look very good in a few short years :(

Bought this for a total kitchen remodel. I chose all Kitchenaid appliances for our kitchen. The unit was installed and has worked extremely well. I love the fact that you can stop a boil over by adjusting the temperature and the unit lowers the heat immediately.

Cooktop cooks well. The black top requires a lot of elbow grease to keep the surface smudge free. Black shows everything. Wish I found one with grey tones like my previous cooktop. I do like the variety of burner sizes. I am looking forward to canning this summer and testing how well the burners perform. the 36" size is nice and roomy.

This is a replacement for a convection cooktop that died. I am very pleased with its appearance. Love the stainless steel knobs and the various sizes and performances of the heating elements. It heats up faster than I expected. It is a little harder to clean, though.

The cooking elements are good. It is very difficult to clean. I use the products you sent along with the cooktop, but it takes a of effort to maintain it. I have had glass cooktops in the past which were a lot easier too maintain. Cleaning the cooktop is a big part of using it.

I™™m enjoying my new cooktop with its 5 burners and the large burner with a dual setting. It is a very nice looking unit, however, it is very difficult to get clean and smudge free. Perhaps a recommended cleaner should have been provided by the dealer.

I bought a total kitchenaid upgrade package from our builder. From the first day we had problems. Burners and other parts had to be replaced. The hot light would not go out & we could not tell if the top was hot. Took three attempts to solve the problem. Feel Kitchenaid should have replaced the unit. No comfort level with this product.

Have had this new cooktop for about a month. Love the different sizes for pots. Finally have a cooktop that will handle my 18" skillet. The heat control is very different from my last cooktop which cooked hot. I have to adjust the control to High if I want to brown anything or bring something to a boil. Its fine just need to get adjusted to it. I can't see where the pot should be placed on the burner until the burner lights up. The markings are so light. Also, this cooktop is hard to clean. I have to degrease the cooktop then rinse it then use a microfiber towel to clear off smudges. There must be an easier way.

I purchased this 15 days ago and had it installed 9 days ago. Let me first say, we had to go with an electric cooktop to replace the 1990s one we had, which by the way worked extremely better than this kitchenmaid cooktop. It makes cooking dinner a 3-4 hrs deal.. it take forever to boil WATER!!! to fry!!! to basically cook. it retains scratches and burns easily, it looks like trash after the first use and I used a wet warm rag to immediately wipe up spills. Our cooking experience is not fun at all. I am also upset that this product does not qualify for a rebate even though the rebate card states it online and I can't return it to the store. I DO NOT recommend this product to anyone... not worth the money or time

Product came as part of the appliance package with home builder (upgraded package). Very content so far. Love the pull out trays that make loading and offloading a lot easier. Two small picky things to watch out for: 1) oven (in my case i have two) will cool down for a long period after use (could be 20-30 mins), which I get, but fan will run meaning that if its after a late dinner, this can be heard in other areas of the house and 2) the timer button is not as sensitive as the others, so we find ourselves cancelling or changing our baking temp setting because we think we pressed the timer button but didn't, so you have to press it a bit harder to engage.

This cooktop came with our new house. First of all, I prefer gas cooking. But that wasn't an option on our development. I've had the cooktop for two months and still haven't figured out how to get the right amount of heat to cook things. The black colored top makes it impossible to see where the burners are. You have to turn the burner on to see it light up before you know where to place the pot and what size pot you can use on it.
Gauging the temperature to boil, fry or just heat up something seems to take forever.
No, this customer is not happy.
